AWS S3 integration guide

Connect AWS S3 to Adoptech to automatically assess bucket security settings and generate evidence for data protection controls.

Overview

The AWS S3 integration enables Adoptech to automatically assess the security configuration of Amazon S3 buckets within your AWS environment.

Once connected, Adoptech reviews bucket settings and verifies whether storage resources containing company data are protected using appropriate encryption and security controls.

This integration helps organisations:

  • Demonstrate protection of data stored in AWS
  • Verify encryption of S3 buckets
  • Monitor storage security configurations
  • Support audit and compliance activities
  • Generate automated evidence for data protection controls

What Data We Collect

Once connected, Adoptech retrieves read-only configuration information relating to:

  • S3 bucket inventory
  • Bucket encryption settings
  • Bucket metadata
  • Storage configuration information
  • Region information

Adoptech does not access, download or inspect the contents of your S3 buckets. Only configuration and security-related metadata is collected.

What We Use the Data For What We Use the Data For

The imported information is used to:

  • Verify encryption is enabled for S3 buckets
  • Support data protection controls
  • Demonstrate secure cloud storage practices
  • Generate compliance evidence automatically
  • Support audit preparation activities

Before you get started you will need:

The following configuration items are required to integrate AWS S3 with Adoptech:

  • AWS API access key
  • AWS API secret key

Can I use the same API key for all of my AWS integrations?

You may find this article useful to determine whether it would be beneficial to have a single AWS account or multiple accounts for the various AWS services. It also describes how to set up AWS access permissions.

How do I set up user permissions to access the S3 API?

  1. Open the IAM console and select the user
  2. Click on “Add Permissions/Attach policies directly”
  3.  Search for “S3” and add “AmazonS3ReadOnlyAccess” or other policy that provides read access to the user.
